How To Quit Retail & Work at Home

My work history has been in retail grocery most of my life, but in recent years I've made the unlikely transition to Web Marketing. From my roots as a country boy and farm hand through more than a quarter century in retail to Web Home Business. How does one make this leap; well not without bumps and hitting bottom a few times. I didn't always know what I wanted but I knew it would be self motivated in nature and a field that would help me find and define myself and my aspirations for personal fulfillment.

I probably did first of all what millions like me have done is start looking, reading, surfing and praying for a trail of crumbs that would lead to my freedom and success. As the photo might suggest my profession in retail has been in the area of meat production and merchandising, but no matter what area of retail you work in this could apply to your situation. If I wanted to stay in this field of work that would be easy because of my experience, but I would be still workin for "the Man ". There is no shame in that at all but I have always wanted to do my own thing. I will list a few of the things that I finally did after several years of wasting time.

How to Change Careers

  • Research the need in the areas of your interest.
  • Weigh your knowledge & determination against the task.
  • Talk to people that have made a 360 in careers.
  • Put feelers out to find out who is genuine in the marketplace you hope to frequent.
  • If you are interested in Web Marketing, start building a subscriber list before you say go!You will need to design and establish a brand and plan to launch your own Home Business with a online presence in the form of a website or Blog.
  • You must truly become an expert in your field
  • Community is important, rub elbows with a bunch of people, learn and share with them.
  • Write and publish articles on the areas of your interest.
  • Cross market by publishing and regularly updating several blogs.
  • Ping blog directories as often as possible.
  • Publish articles on Google news under your keyword category.
  • Monetize through adsense or even better build blog traffic to send to a sales site where you can monetize with affiliate products or other areas that you are interested in.

Building on a Home Business Foundation

You will Have to lay some bricks for a while, this does not happen overnight. My areas of most success on the web have been in other work that I failed in; but gained important knowledge and information. Use the things that you may not have mastered to help you build a stronger more diversified foundation for your Home Based Business.

Build a strong landing pad, get a good running start and make the leap to Work at Home Success in Web Marketing.

Whats You Home Business Address?

Web Marketing with a Retail View

My jump to a Web Marketing Home business is not as much of a leap as it may seem. I am using many of the skills retail taught me. Remember the most valuable skill you learn in retail is customer service and you will use this all of your days. The attitude of patrons is much the same in person and in cyber space. Solve the problem and answer the question and you gain their interest, trust and eventually you can monetize the deal. They both require you to develop and nurture a relationship of trust with your guests as you provide the products and services they have come to depend on. You might ask, why I dont hub on meat selection and preparation; I plan to. This is an area in which I have a lot to offer. A hub for another day.

Very good information and looks like you learned to look before leaping! This is exactly what it takes to be successful and of course a a service or product that is and will continue to be in demand.

I'd like to place an order for that chili - do you take M.C. or VISA?

These are great essential tips for beginning work at home. I would definitely have to agree that research is the most important part of learning how to work from home! I never actually worked in retail myself, but was in a sort of similar position working at a local fast food restaurant. I think having even a simple job like this can teach you a lot about business. Even in simple ways like learning how to properly interact with customers! Taking that knowledge and applying it to how you write articles and communicate with other individuals trying to work from home is really useful!

The one thing I would say about starting a home business is that diversification of content and products you are attempting to sell is important! You can take that from the retail sector very easily. Retail stores have a large selection of products to sell and choose from. While not everything moves really quickly, some things do! You just need to learn what works for you! Thanks a lot for this great article by the way. I'm looking forward to reading more in the future!

Getting out of retail has been a major goal of mine, and at such a young age too (I am 21 right now!). I worked at Wal-Mart for 2 years, and have found working from home and making money online to be vastly superior to any of my experiences there. What I have found to be the most amazing aspect of making money from home (and online no less) is just how easy it is to find money making opportunities online. Even if you don't have a concrete idea down for making money, you can find yourself making money pretty quickly by doing sort of "odd jobs" like writing articles and making money using Google Adsense. While doing this will not typically replace your income, it can certainly do a good job of supplementing it. One of my friends actually makes close to $1,000 dollars a month from passive income streams, so I can say it is very possible to make money effectively from home. It just takes some hard work and determination, but almost anyone can do it!

I have been hearing a lot lately about making money from home, but I find it hard to believe. Aside from the few people who really manage to profit, it just doesn't seem worth it to me. How much do you think people can really expect to make? In addition to that, how long does it tend to take for people to actually get to a point where they can make a liveable amount of money? It would seem like a lot of trial and error is involved here, which concerns me especially if I would leave my already low paying retail job. Those questions aside though, your article has been really useful in informing me about working from home vs working in retail, so I just wanted to leave a comment and say "thanks" for the information. If you could get back to me on those questions as well, that would be great too!
